Films by individuals who are paid to produce video will be considered for this category

  1. Amateur Promotional – Up to 1 minute
  2. Amateur Short – 1 to 5 minutes in length
  3. Amateur Long – 5 to 15 minutes in length
  4. Pro Promotional – Up to 1 minute
  5. Pro Short – 1 to 5 minutes in length
  6. Pro Long – 5 to 15 minutes in length

Longer films will be accepted and approved on a case by case basis at the sole discretion of KUIU.

Submitting Your Film
  • Entries must be the original work of the submitter.
  • Entries are non-exclusive; you can enter your film in other festivals. (Films previously entered in the KUIU Film Festival are ineligible).
  • Multiple entries are allowed.
  • We reserve the right to give preferential treatment to films produced from the 2016 – 2017 hunting season. However, films shot in prior hunting seasons are permitted in the competition.
  • Submissions with noticeable audio or visual problems will not be accepted at KUIU’s sole discretion.
  • Submissions containing illegal, unethical, or irresponsible hunting practices will not be accepted.
  • See below section for policies and information on music and stock footage licensing.
  • See below section for content policies.
  • Any sponsorship information must be limited to the credits of the film.
  • By submitting, you grant KUIU a non-exclusive right to link to and/or publicly display your film. All copyrights remain with you, the originator of the work.

Required information for your submission:

  • Your contact information: Name, Phone, Address and Email.
  • Link to your film on YouTube or Vimeo, and the correct name of the film
  • Up to 250-word bio on the filmmaker or production company
  • Up to 250-word description of the film
  • Up to Five (5) images: film, filmmaker, behind the scenes, company logo, etc.
  • Full credits
  • Music licensing information (see Music section of Guidelines for more detail)
  • Stock footage licensing information (see Stock Footage section of Guidelines for more detail)
Content Guidelines

Films should be related to hunting and/or outdoor activities and can include, but are not limited to; a hunt documentary, a training film, a scouting documentary, an outdoor film, a tutorial on a hunting technique, an artistic meditation on hunting itself, and any other outdoor related activity. Be creative, and focus on telling an engaging story.

New PROMOTIONAL up to 1 minute category: Think you’ve got a viral short? Submit it to this category. Examples of PROMOTIONAL videos include: Sizzle reels, humorous content, quick tutorials, commercials, entertaining promotional videos, etc.. Promotional videos submitted can be related to products, services, hunting and/or outdoor activities.

Submitted films don’t have to be a KUIU commercial, however, KUIU products are an integral part of the KUIU Film Festival and should be predominantly displayed in the submitted films. We are looking for the best and most engaging stories, regardless of length or topic. Please stay classy, and keep the gore to a minimum. Even though this is hunting, there’s is no need to show the skinning process, gut pile, or an animal suffering excessively as it dies. If there is any particularly strong language in the film, please bleep or edit it out.

Stock Footage

Stock footage should constitute no more than 10% of the running time of your film. Ideally, use it to set the scene if you didn’t get an appropriate landscape shot. It’s appropriate to use stock footage of elk when talking about elk in general; however, when talking about the specific elk you shot, you should show only your own footage. Even if you get (for example) footage from your guide, shot in the same location, but at a different time or on a different hunt, please credit your guide appropriately. Stock footage must be legally licensed with a written license agreement, and credited according to the guidelines of the footage provider. If none have been provided, the generally accepted credits format is:

Music

It’s very important that any music used within a submitted film be legally licensed and provide appropriate music credits in the end credits of your film. One of the following is required:
(1) Written permission from the existing copyright holder. This means permission from the record label, musician, or other rights-holder. Even if it’s just your buddy’s band, get written permission! End credits for this kind of use must read as shown:

*On a serious note, this song is awesome, but don’t use it unless you have (a) enough money to license it and (b) actual footage of F-14s in your film.

In the event a film is submitted without legally licensed music, we will temporarily disqualify the film, and ask for a copy of the written permission.

(2) Legally licensed stock music from a stock library like Audiojungle.com, Audionetwork.com, or Premiumbeat.com (to name a few great resources). Tracks from these libraries can cost as little as $14 for a license, making these a great option! Each library will have guidelines for appropriate crediting, and usually look something like this:

(3) Original music that a composer writes for your film. A written agreement is great for this, but the only requirement is that the composer get a credit:

Contest Terms and Conditions

KUIU reserves the right to change schedule dates and prizes at its discretion. Winners must be at least 18 years of age. No Cash Value. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law. KUIU is not liable for entrant emails not received. Employees of KUIU or their family members or anyone else connected in any way with the contest or helping to set up the contest shall not be permitted to participate or win. Backordered prizes will be shipped as soon as inventory is replenished. Promotion may not be used in conjunction with any other special discounts or offers and may not be applied to previous purchases, backorders, or preorders.
